US-based global technology company Nvidia announced that its gaming console Shield is off to a good start. Despite an initial delay and last minute changes to the Android portable’s launch price, Chris Evenden – the company’s senior director of investor relations – stated that the device is achieving great results at retail.
Evenden recently said, “Sales have been great. Everything that we shipped so far has sold out and – but we’re just starting to ramp production. We’ve shipped out to our partners only several thousand units, and so it’s still quite early to tell. But we’re expecting to do quite well with Shield.” The new console on the market was released on July 31, 2013 and it enables higher-end Android performance in a portable gaming platform.
Nvidia’s Shield is powered by an Android Tegra 4 processor and it features a 5-inch retina-display touchscreen and the device can play entire games straight from a PC (given that the host PC uses a GeForce GTX 650 card, or higher). The company reported a Q2 2013 ending on July 28, 2013 revenue to be $977.2 million, as well as net income of $96.4 million. Both numbers are slightly down when compared to the same period in 2012.
Jen-Hsun Huang – Nvidia CEO and co-founder – said that the company is glad to be moving forwards with latest Tegra 4 devices coming to market, as well as Shield moving outside of the US.
