Sony Online Entertainment’s free-to-play MMO DC Universe Online will be relying on the same servers for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, which means that players will be allowed to collaborate, as well as compete across both platforms. The latest news has been announced by Jens Andersen – the DC Universe Online senior creative director – who confirmed that users on PlayStation 3 can play on PlayStation 4 and vice versa.

He wrote, “We wanted to make sure that the release of DCUO on PS4 was not a homewrecker. We know there are lots of people from lots of different walks of life that find themselves in the same league, and enjoy playing with one another in game.” Andersen went on to explain that they realized that some people would adopt the new platform early on, while others would wait until buying one. He also stated that the studio thought it was crucial to maintain cohesion in the community, so they made a decision to allow users to play on the same servers.

For the upcoming PlayStation 4 edition, Sony Online Entertainment is targeting a 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second and it will be available at the next-gen console’s launch. The studio also issued a patch to the PlayStation 3 edition recently, in preparation for the PlayStation 4 version’s launch.

PlayStation 4 is scheduled to be released on November 15, 2013 in the United States and on November 29, 2013 in Europe and Australia.
